While even the acient Mayan civilization used Chia seeds in the cooking, it’s only within the last 10 years, that the rest of the world have started to notice these small South American seeds. Chiaseed or Chiafrø as it’s also called, are actually some of the most health food you can eat, which is most likely why it’s been a part of the south america kitchen for thousands of years. It doesn’t really look like much and while it’s tasty it’s not what you could call delicious, which is most likely one of the reasons the rest of the world haven’t paid much attention to it before.  But let’s take a closer look at some of the benefits you get by eating chia frø, and why it’s becomming a major export product in South America.

It can help reverse diabetes
Many seem to believe that Chiafrø can be a natural treatment for type-2 diabetes. The main reason for this is that it contains a lot of Omega 3 and fibers and has the ability to slow down digestion, which can prevent blood sugar spikes.

Strong bones and Teeth
Chia seeds contain a lot of calcuim and phosphorus, which is used to maintaining strong bones and teeths.

Plenty of proteins

As mentioned earlier, chia contains a lot of Omga 3. Even more than other seeds, such as flaxseed, that people normally use as a source of Omega-3.

As you can see there are quite a few benefits to this super seed from South America. And while the local people have known this for many years, it’s only recently that the people in the rest of the world have started to notice it too.
